On Saturday, May 13, the Kansas Historic Sites Board of Review approved a grant request from the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, KS, and Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area for $20,000 in funding to hire a consultant to complete the application for National Historic Landmark status for the Quindaro Ruins.

Several stakeholders attended a public hearing at the Kansas State Museum on Friday, May 12, in support of the grant application. Assistant County Administrator for the Unified Government, Gordon Criswell, praised Freedom’s Frontier for their work in drawing together landowners, neighborhood residents and other groups with an interest in the Quindaro site.

Congressman Kevin Yoder provided a letter in support of the grant and attended a showcase of the work Freedom’s Frontier and its partners have done around the Quindaro neighborhood and in Kansas’s Third District on Thursday, May 11, (pictured).
